You can sum up all the best Chicago has to offer in three words: blues, buildings, and pizza. Surrounded by the legendary architecture of the Windy City, Chicago chefs are serving up hearty, tasty cuisine--including Chicago's legendary deep-dish pie. Serve with a side of Chicago blues, and you’re looking at a metropolitan Midwestern meal.

For students considering culinary schools in Chicago, absorbing the rich culinary offerings of this city can be a learning experience in itself. From Greek and Italian cuisine to legendary staples like the Chicago hot dog and deep-dish pizza, Chicago offers a scrumptious menu to area residents.

Students Get a Taste of Chicago Culinary Legends
Within the first week of attending culinary schools in Chicago, it’s a safe bet that most students--especially those from out of town--will (or should) taste a true Chicago style pizza. Although restaurants nationwide bill "Chicago style pizza," few outside the Windy City can deliver the goods. Concocted in a deep dish pan, Chicago pizza actually has a fairly thin crust, upon which chefs pile cheese and any other ingredients, such as sausage, pepperoni, or spinach. The telltale sign of a true Chicago pizza is the finishing touch--sauce on top.

Another "only-in-Chicago" experience for students of the area’s culinary schools is the Chicago hot dog. Besides the standard dog in a bun, this culinary tradition often includes cucumber and tomato slices, a pickle spear, and hot peppers, as well as multiple condiments.

For those attending Chicago culinary schools, tasting and learning about the Windy City’s culinary heavy hitters should add a whole new level to the educational experience.
